The French Revolution

• On the Morning of 14th July 1789 the Citizens gathered in front of the town hall, They broke government buildings in search of arms.

• They Stormed the fortress prison, the Bastille, killed the Commander and released prisoners

• Bastille was hated by all because it stood for the despotic power of the king

• Most People was protesting against the high price of bread and high Rates of taxes

 

French Society during the late 18th Century

• In 1774, Louis XVI of the bourbon family of kings ascended the throne at the age of 20 year's

• He was married to Austrain Princess 

Marie Antoinette

• He found Empty Treasure Due to 

    1. Long years of War had Drained the Financial resource of France

    2. Maintaining the immense place of Versailles

    3. France helped American Colonies to gain their independence from Britain

   4. Other Regular Expensese

   5. Lenders who gave the state Credit Now began to Charge 10 percent interest on loans

French Society in during the 18th Century was divided into 3 Estates these are :-

  1st Estate = Clergy 

  2nd Estate = Nobility

  3rd Estate = Peasants and Workers

• Clergy :- Group of person invested with Special functions of the Church

• Nobility :- Group of person who runs the Church

• 3rd Estate Consist of businessman, Merchants,Court Official, Lawer, farmer and labours etc
